Treg A. Bernt is a 4th generation Idahoan. He was born and raised in Pocatello, ID. Treg attended Idaho State University and graduated with a B.A. in Speech Communication. Treg and his family moved to Meridian from Pocatello in 2003. He was a Territory Manager for Shaw Industries, a flooring manufacturer. In 2015, Treg decided to go into business for himself and has owned and operated his own flooring business in the Treasure Valley that is ran in conjunction with his family’s flooring business in Pocatello. Treg has always valued the importance of small business, the backbone of communities and our country. Public service through community involvement is an important characteristic that Treg values greatly. He has served our Meridian community in several roles since 2007. Treg has shared his time, experience and expertise on a number of committees and commissions. He is a past President of the City of Meridian Parks & Recreation Commission and served on the Planning & Zoning Commission before being elected to the Meridian City Council. Currently, Treg is serving in his 2nd term on the Meridian City Council and has served as Council President the last 2 years. Currently, Treg also is a board member of the Meridian Development Corporation, Meridian’s urban renewal district. MDC is focused on the health and vibrancy of the heart of our community – our downtown. He also served as Vice Chair of the Association of Idaho Cities Legislative Committee, helping advocate and highlight the issues that impact residents at the local level. “All great change is America begins at the dinner table.” – Ronald Reagan Family first! There isn’t anything more important to Treg than his family. Over the years, he has shared his values and desire to be involved in his kid’s lives through the Boy Scouts of America, he coached Y-ball and competitive soccer, and has dedicated his deep faith in God with many responsibilities to his church. Through his experience and involvement, Treg has gained important perspective when making critical and strategic decisions that impact the lives of residents in his role serving on the Meridian City Council. If Treg isn’t working or at City Hall; you will find him on a river fly fishing, on a snow board shredding powder, hunting in the mountains, on a golf course with his wife, playing pickle ball with his 6:30am crew at Settlers Park, or spending quality time with his wife, Tiffanie and his 3 children. Whether you’re a concerned Meridian resident or if you’re interested in supporting Treg in his campaign for the Idaho State Senate in District 21, please reach out. He is always available to listen…
TOP 3 ISSUES
Education We need better funding tools to repair and build schools and school operations. Today, there is only one tool, bonds or levies. The state needs to re-invest the growth income generated back to growing communities. Emphasize Career Technical Education at middle and high schools, providing cutting edge educational and mentorship opportunities. Not all students will go on to a university after graduation. For this reason, it’s important to provide them with the life skills so they can experience success. Businesses depend on a quality work force! Support our teaching professionals to ensure our qualified educators stay.
Property Tax Reform Residents and businesses rely on predictable and fair taxes. Property Tax reform should not shift the burden from commercial to residential. Homeowners should not be burdened to pay for new school facilities with increased property taxes when it is the State’s responsibility to provide a thorough system of public, free common schools. We need to evaluate existing tax exemptions to ensure everyone pays their share of the state tax burden.
Growth & Transportation Growth should pay for growth. Schools and state roadways need to be allowed a growth impact fee. Existing residents should not be burdened with the cost of growth. The construction of Linder Road overpass and Highway 16 are both critical road improvements necessary to reduce traffic and congestion on existing roadways in District 21.
